Seasonal Allergies (1)
Seasonal allergies affect many people throughout the United States and abroad. Allergies are caused by an abnormal immune response during which an otherwise harmless substance, such as a dust or pollen triggers the release of histamine into the bloodstream. Histamine is the chemical responsible for such allergy symptoms as:

• Sneezing
• Nasal Congestion
• A Runny Nose
• Itchy, Watery Eyes
• Mouth or Throat Itchiness
• Wheezing
• Coughing
• Difficulty Breathing

Here’s some pharmaceutical treatment options to help alleviate seasonal allergies:

• Oral Antihistamines – Available in pills, liquid or eye drops; Examples include Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra or Zaditor

• Steroid Nasal Sprays – To open blocked passages and stop nasal drip; Examples include Flonase and Nasacort

• Decongestants – Available in oral, liquid, spray and nasal drop formulations that help clear nasal mucus and improve breathing

While there are many over-the-counter medications available to treat allergy symptoms, there is no one-size-fits-all solution to the widespread problem. Remember, the best way to deal with seasonal allergies is to try and prevent it by minimizing exposure to pollens and molds.
