How to Handle Stress

Stress affects everyone. You may notice symptoms of stress when disciplining your children, during busy times at work, when managing your finances, while stuck in traffic, or when coping with a challenging relationship. Now, don’t get me wrong. A little stress is beneficial for most people, but too much stress can wear you down and make you sick, both mentally and physically.

Here’s some symptoms of stress that you need to look for:

• Becoming easily agitated, frustrated, and moody.
• Feeling overwhelmed like you are losing control or need to take control.
• Having difficulty relaxing and quieting your mind.
• Feeling bad about yourself, lonely, worthless, and depressed.
• Avoiding other people.
• Constant worrying and racing thoughts.
• Forgetfulness and disorganization.
• Inability to focus.
• Changes in appetite.
• Procrastinating and avoiding responsibilities.
• Increased use of alcohol, drugs, or cigarettes.

Here’s some great tips to help beat stress before it beats you:

• Tip 1 – Get organized.
• Tip 2 – Implement systems.
• Tip 3 – Avoid filling in every minute of time with extra activities.
• Tip 4 – Make some time for yourself.
• Tip 5 – Find a support system.
• Tip 6 – Laugh.
• Tip 7 – Let some things go.

Although stress is a part of life, what matters most is how you handle it. The best thing you can do to prevent stress overload in your life is to know your stress symptoms. If you are overwhelmed with stress, contact your health professional, a therapist or support group to help you work through stressful situations. Remember, less stress is the best for your overall health.
