Here’s some ways to help boost self-esteem within a family:

• Spend time with your family members. Do special things together and let them know how important they are to you.

• Listen to your family member’s ideas and thoughts. Take them seriously when having a conversation.

• Pay attention to your loved one’s emotions and feelings. Remind your loved one that no feeling is bad, and our feelings help define who we are.

• Hold realistic expectations. Have a clear understanding of what everyone’s expectations are within the family.

• Have frequent family discussions and work as a team to solve problems together.

• Designate chores for each family member to help build trust and responsibility.

• Point out and build on each family member’s strengths. Then, work on the weaknesses that may occur.

• Share a joke and laugh together. Designate days and times to watch movies, play board games, do puzzles or just sit down to read a good book.

Obviously, there are many other opportunities to help boost self-esteem within a family setting because the dynamics of family are so different and unique. How do you help boost self-esteem within your family? Please share your thoughts.
